Warm Weather Termite Issues Raleigh-Durham, NC
We’re reaching the point of the year when subterranean termites begin to “swarm”, so we’d like to remind all of you to stay vigilant and be aware of the signs of termite activity. The upcoming warmer temperatures can lead to heavy swarmer activity.
Termite Swarmers
Termite swarmers (also known as alates) are winged termites whose sole purpose in life is reproducing and creating new termite colonies. In order to find a mate, these termite kings and queens will swarm and find optimal locations to build their colonies.
Swarming termites can easily be confused with flying ants, but if you look close enough, they become easily distinguishable. Flying ants, like most flying insects, have two sets of different sized wings. In contrast, swarming termites have two sets of equal sized wings. Another noticeable difference you will see is that termite swarmers will shed their wings while ants will not.
